Here Are a Couple of Reasons Why Google AdSense Sucks

Straight to the point, don't get me wrong or anything - I love Google, so much that I even switched my WP7 phone to the new Android 2.3... but their Advertising network (AdSense) is actually a complete joke. I will go over a few points as to why it won't make you much (if anything at all) if you decide to use it on your blog or company site.

The entire system is pretty messed up from the get-go if you ask me.. just to give you an idea how an average publisher ends up with Google AdSense: there are literally millions of publishers which will never reach the $100 mark, which makes you wonder what happens to that money that Google never releases.

1. Customer Service

Their customer service is literally a gong show. If you ever need to contact them for anything, it takes them anywhere from 2 week to a month to get back to you. In many cases you will never even get a reply back.

2. Payout Limit

I know that other advertising networks have this, but the worst thing about this is that most publishers will never even reach that limit with AdSense. Which means everything you earned them, will go straight in their pocket and you will get nothing unless you keep their ads up on your site until this limit is reached (very slowly). Its a lot like doing work for free.

3. Automatic Approval

"Great!" you may think when you hear this - but no, actually this is not that great. This means that there are thousands of other crappy websites that house the EXACT same ads as your website. Have you ever wondered why there are so many low quality websites out there with a ton of ads? This means that there is no quality control what so ever and more strict rules have to be laid out AFTER a site has been approved (sort of backwards if you ask me).

4. Nazi-like Account Terminations

Yes, its that bad. There are thousands of people that have their accounts terminated for odd reasons. The most popular seems to be "Invalid Click Activity". The smallest things can trigger this, such as a spike in clicks from higher traffic. Even after you appeal to them chances are you will never get your account, money or their ads again. To add on top of this madness they also offer no proof and a super professional message that goes along the lines of "if you appealed to us once already, and have been terminated, we will not have any further communication with you". Are you guys 15 over there or something? What if the publisher needs further info as to why their account full with money will never be seen again.

5. No Money is Earned When AdSense Ads aren't Clicked

While other advertising networks let you earn minimal amounts of money for ad impressions, AdSense usually doesn't pay out for these. The odd time you will see a few cents in your account from impressions but not always.

6. Ads Take Traffic Away From Your Site

All of the ads that AdSense has are set up in a way to close your own site and take you to the advertisers link - so really in the end there is something to consider, is it really worth the 10 cents or whatever you will get per click to loose a reader - food for thought.

7. UGLY Ads

You would think that the biggest advertising network in the world would have some sort of quality control when accepting advertisers - but no, they don't and so many of these ads look like shit. One thing to consider, especially if you plan to advertise with them - are you ready to display your ads alongside other ugly ads?
